Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Elementary School

Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Elementary School

The Ohkay Owingeh Community Classroom Building for the Pueblo of Ohkay Owingeh is a much-needed replacement for the old school building(s). The 11,700 square foot 1-story facility fits nicely between remaining structures on their campus and will bring an element of excitement and pride to the students, staff, and the community.

The New School consists of K-6 Classrooms and a Special Education and Language Classroom. The plan is efficient and conventional in its layout. You approach the main entry to the east which is covered by a “butterfly” shaped roof with wide overhangs. The rest of the building is finished in a combination of stucco and burnished concrete block. Fenestration is protected by sun screens and the center area of the School has a raised volume of space and a clerestory window that brings natural light into the center of the building.
