Larry Anderson PRINCIPAL | PRESIDENT | CEO Larry grew up in Mandan (fighting Braves), North Dakota and graduated from North Dakota State University (mighty Bison) in Fargo with a bachelor’s 5-year degree in architecture. Upon graduation, he was given the opportunity to work for a small firm in his hometown. Larry took on a great deal of responsibility and received a strong foundation for architecture through this experience. After 15 years he desired to gain experience on larger projects with larger firms in a more urban setting. He and his wife moved to Portland, Oregon and found the opportunity quite rewarding. About 25 years ago, a significant gaming and hospitality project presented itself in New Mexico. Larry answered the call and ever since he and his wife have called Albuquerque home. Throughout Larry’s career he has always had an affinity to the Native culture and over the years has worked for many native and non-native firms that worked in Indian Country. 12 years ago in January 2014, Larry and his partner started Buffalo Design Architects. They felt a need to provide Native Tribes with quality design and construction, gaining a reputation for being fair, reasonable, and giving the client value and satisfaction in the process. Quality design and collaboration being the key ingredients to any successful project and the Owner being paramount to the project’s success. BDA’s mantra from day one has been to provide diversity of culture | people | place both externally and internally. Larry has more than 40 years’ experience as an architect. He has worked on a wide variety of projects including educational, commercial, office, hospitality, gaming, government, health care, judicial, etc., earning valuable experience dealing with all aspects of the architectural and construction process He is a team player who believes in progressive, responsive architecture and project management. Larry has been working with Native American clients for most of his professional career. He truly enjoys working in Indian Country and receives great satisfaction seeing projects successfully completed and dreams realized. Navajo Technical University Residence Hall < Back Navajo Technical University Residence Hall The $73 million New Student Housing project at Navajo Technical University in Crownpoint, New Mexico will create a state-of-the-art residential complex which will enhance student experiences with spaces that encourage social engagement & recreation, a focus on academics while also giving students a sense of privacy and independence. It will be strongly linked to Navajo identity, culture, and respectful of the environment while also promoting the overall Mission and Philosophy of the University. The Student Housing will consist of 12 “Residential Communities” with a total of 270 Beds with shared Community Lounges and Study Rooms. The 3-story Housing Wings will be joined by a 2-story Building Commons area which will include Lobby/Living Room, Community Learning Center, Study Room(s), Recreation Commons, Laundry & Vending, Multipurpose, Offices, and Staff Apartment. The total area for this building is 95,175 square feet. Isleta Resort & Casino Museum Renovation < Back Isleta Resort & Casino Museum Renovation This renovation turned a kids play area into an exhibit space within the Isleta Hotel & Casino Renovation. The NEH Exhibit is a traveling. exhibit that was displayed within this space for a year and a half. Due to the limited time to prepare the space and the temporary nature of the exhibit, the room was finished simply and economically while looking aesthetically pleasing. An access point to the exhibit was added on an exterior wall to create direct access to the space. This space also had directional fencing and signage on the exterior to direct visitors to the exhibit. First Nations Community HealthSource Clinic Addition < Back First Nations Community HealthSource Clinic Addition First Nations Community HealthSource is a nonprofit health clinic to more than 10,000 community members in southeastern Albuquerque. Designated as a community health center and health care for the homeless clinic. FNCH is also New Mexico’s urban Indian health center. FNCH’s mission is to provide a comprehensive and culturally appropriate health delivery system that addresses the mental, social, spiritual, and physical needs of urban Indians and other under-served populations in Albuquerque and the surrounding area. FNCH provides comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, Traditional Healing, and a host of support services to assist individuals with their basic needs. This project is specific to FNCH’s proposed Health Infrastructure Program project and will construct a two-story 4,304 square foot addition onto its main health center facility and a 528 square foot addition onto its dental clinic located at the same physical location that will allow FNCH to add two more dental operatories. This will also include funding to equip an additional medical exam room in the main facility by equipping. The rooms are currently used for health promotions. The resulting facility will result in a much larger and more efficient facility, well suited to deliver services to the target Urban Indian and homeless patient population. Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Entrepreneur Complex < Back Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Entrepreneur Complex Originally this project was scheduled to be a stand-alone building just East of the Maker Space 2 project located on the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center campus. The IPCC asked us to re-design the interior of Maker Space 2 (which had not yet started construction) to host the commercial kitchen project. Along with the stakeholders, the design team has worked diligently to re-work the interiors to accommodate a space that will function as a hub for food service operations for the 19 Pueblos. Designed to accommodate a Farm-to-Table approach this facility will have capacity for “Rough Prep” and “High Volume Production”. There will also be multiple cooking lines for “Catering” and “Meal Preparation”. Along with a large demonstration Kitchen, this project should provide all the means necessary to facilitate any and all services for the cultural advancement, education, interpretation, and overall experience of native cooking and traditions.
