First Nations Community HealthSource Clinic Addition < Back First Nations Community HealthSource Clinic Addition First Nations Community HealthSource is a nonprofit health clinic to more than 10,000 community members in southeastern Albuquerque. Designated as a community health center and health care for the homeless clinic. FNCH is also New Mexico’s urban Indian health center. FNCH’s mission is to provide a comprehensive and culturally appropriate health delivery system that addresses the mental, social, spiritual, and physical needs of urban Indians and other under-served populations in Albuquerque and the surrounding area. FNCH provides comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, Traditional Healing, and a host of support services to assist individuals with their basic needs. This project is specific to FNCH’s proposed Health Infrastructure Program project and will construct a two-story 4,304 square foot addition onto its main health center facility and a 528 square foot addition onto its dental clinic located at the same physical location that will allow FNCH to add two more dental operatories. This will also include funding to equip an additional medical exam room in the main facility by equipping. The rooms are currently used for health promotions. The resulting facility will result in a much larger and more efficient facility, well suited to deliver services to the target Urban Indian and homeless patient population. Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Entrepreneur Complex < Back Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Entrepreneur Complex Originally this project was scheduled to be a stand-alone building just East of the Maker Space 2 project located on the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center campus. The IPCC asked us to re-design the interior of Maker Space 2 (which had not yet started construction) to host the commercial kitchen project. Along with the stakeholders, the design team has worked diligently to re-work the interiors to accommodate a space that will function as a hub for food service operations for the 19 Pueblos. Designed to accommodate a Farm-to-Table approach this facility will have capacity for “Rough Prep” and “High Volume Production”. There will also be multiple cooking lines for “Catering” and “Meal Preparation”. Along with a large demonstration Kitchen, this project should provide all the means necessary to facilitate any and all services for the cultural advancement, education, interpretation, and overall experience of native cooking and traditions. Chelsea Shendo DRAFTSPERSON | TECHNICIAN Chelsea Shendo, a highly skilled draftsperson and technician, has a decade of experience in drafting across various fields. She holds an Associate of Science in Architectural/Engineering Drafting Technology from Central New Mexico Community College. As an Indigenous New Mexican from the Jemez and Zuni Pueblos, Chelsea's commitment to giving back to Native communities through her work in infrastructure development is unwavering. Her career is dedicated to serving Native American communities in the Southwest, and her expertise in drafting plays a critical role in achieving that goal. Currently, Chelsea is part of the team at Buffalo Design, where she assists architects and intern architects in producing site plans, floor plans, and renderings for various significant projects. Her contributions include renovations of the White Mountain Apache Tribe’s gas station and tire shop and her involvement in the Hopi Tribal Housing Authority’s community building in Kykotsmovi Village. Chelsea is also part of the production team working on the historic renovation of the Paolo Soleri Amphitheatre at the Santa Fe Indian School, where she contributes to preserving its original design while adapting it to the school’s needs. Chelsea's drafting experience is complemented by her work on the Acoma Business Park project, where she provided the Acoma Pueblo with commercial and residential spaces aimed at generating sustainable revenue for the community. Her role in this project, which included assisting with interior design and specifications, showcases her versatile skill set in both technical and design aspects. Chelsea’s commitment to her community and technical expertise make her an invaluable asset to any project she is involved in. Tom is an award-winning architect whose projects have been recognized by his peers, the construction industry and other civic organizations. He has worked on a variety of project types for many diverse clients. Tom has worked on numerous administration building, community center and similar projects for Tribes throughout the country. Tom’s sensitivity to working with diverse cultures is derived from his experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Central America and more than 15 years of working with Native Americans. Poeh Cultural Center Master Plan < Back Poeh Cultural Center Master Plan The proposed new park is intended to occupy the property to the northwest of the Poeh Cultural Center (PCC). The envisaged park will incorporate a Pueblo Veterans Memorial, a playground, and a fitness course. It is imperative for the park to have direct access to the outdoor activity areas of the PCC. Throughout its history, the Poeh Cultural Center has consistently expanded its offerings, collections, and archives, with an ongoing commitment to serving the Pojoaque Pueblo community and Pueblo Indians across New Mexico. With the continuous growth of collections, archives, and services, there arises a requirement for additional storage and workspace. To address this need, the Buffalo Design team has been chosen to collaborate with the staff and management of the PCC in identifying a suitable approach for expanding the existing center. The objective is to align this expansion with the overarching goals and objectives of the Poeh Cultural Center. Peralta Community Park < Back Peralta Community Park This project was designed in conjunction with the Peralta Community Center Project. To further compliment and to extend the functions of the Community Center, this project was designed to provide the community a public park, playground area, open grass areas, and plenty of landscaping to pay homage to the community, the bosque, and the network of water ways and ditch banks that crisscross the valley and provide life to the small farming community. Investigations are on-going to expand the park potentially another 1.5Acres to the South to include more open grass area for play and sport. Vanessa Garcia PROJECT ARCHITECT Vanessa Garcia has lived in New Mexico for a majority of her life. She graduated from UNM with her master’s degree in architecture. She is a licensed Architect in the State of New Mexico. She has experience in all phases of a project, from programming, schematic design, and construction document production on, rendering, specification writing, interior finishes, construction administration and project management, with many of her projects being on Tribal Land throughout the Southwest.
